Do I need a referral for an appointment?
Unless you are a Medicare patient, we do not require a doctor's referral. However, your insurance company may if you plan on submitting a claim for reimbursement. If you do have a referral, please have the referring physician fax it to us at 703-573-3574. You will also be able to upload it to our online patient portal following scheduling, but please have it handy before the initial intake.
How soon are appointments available?
It depends. We are currently scheduling a few weeks out. There is always a chance that you can be seen earlier if there are cancellations that open up slots on our schedule. We keep a waiting list for this specific purpose.
Do you require a reservation deposit?
Yes. Except for Medicare patients, we require a reservation deposit in the amount of $300 when scheduling your appointment in order to hold your spot on our calendar. This amount will be credited towards your overall cost.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
Scheduling a neuropsychological evaluation is a more complex process compared to most appointments, so we appreciate as much advance notice as possible if you need to cancel your appointment. Our current cancellation policy requires advance notice of at least two business days. The $300 reservation deposit collected upon scheduling becomes non-refundable if a cancellation is not made within two business days of a scheduled appointment.
Do I need to complete my paperwork before the appointment
Yes, it is of absolute importance that all of your paperwork be completed before your scheduled appointment. We reserve the right to cancel your appointment if the necessary paperwork is not completed in time.
Should I take my medication before the evaluation?
Unless otherwise discussed or directed, you should take all of your medications as prescribed.
How long does an appointment last?
The duration of an appointment depends on the type of appointment. Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescents are conducted in two separate sessions lasting between three and four hours each. Adult neuropsychological evaluations (ages 19+) are conducted in one session lasting up to six hours. All sessions are individualized and more time and sessions are scheduled as needed on an individual basis for reasons such as increased fatigue, poor concentration, or health limitations. There will also be breaks as needed for snacks and lunch, but they should be kept brief in order to allow for the timely completion of testing.
How long will it take to see the results after testing is completed?
This depends on the type of assessment. Given that our reports are very thorough, for a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation, you should expect to wait between four to six weeks until the report is ready. We will notify you once it is available.
